The church's first presidents, Joseph Smith & Brigham Young, said that Black skin was the result of the Curse of Cain or the Curse of Ham. As early as 1844, leaders suggested that Black people were less valiant in the preexistence.
it’s very similar to Hebrew Israelite’s beliefs of Black people being punished as a result of disobedience & now living under “the of curse of HAM”..

Lol @ the revisionism.. Black people were among its earliest converts. Black people were barred from being ordained to the priesthood, entering Mormon temples. and Wasn’t reversed until 1978.
The Mormon Church had revised scriptures that were previously used to justify a ban on Black men (Black folks in general but sexism+racism played a part too) serving within the church. But only because the IRS was threatening to take away their tax exemption status.
