🌶 Happy Ti-Tea Tuesday! Today is all about Peppermint tea and we’re 4 days post Christmas so naturally I decided to wear my candy cane cropped top to deliver the final tea message of 2020.
Peppermint tea: that cool, refreshing, old lady staple known for it’s ability to wake you up, heal your tummy, and freshen your breath. Talk about a 3 for 1!
.
Health Benefits:
(1) Stomach health: peppermint has menthol which has a relaxing effect on the gastrointestinal system. The relaxing effect can relieve bloating, stomach inflammation, nausea, and gas.
(2) Headaches: similarly to the stomach, the menthol in peppermint leaves can relax the muscles and vessels in the head and can be used to alleviate certain kinds of headaches, migraines, and sinus issues.
(3)Anti-viral/Anti-Bacterial properties: peppermint has a traditional medicinal history as an herbal anti-viral treatment. It’s antimicrobial properties decongest the nose, and open airways in the chest… considering all we have going on here with Miss Rona, stocking up on peppermint teamight be a good idea.
.
.
Beauty Benefits: Peppermint tea is GREAT for people with oily skin because the menthol (found in the oil from the leaves) helps slow down the production of oil aka reducing the probability of a build-up of sebum.
Peppermint tea is also great for dandruff since and a healthy scalp since many scalp health issues have to do with bacteria or an overproduction of oil — both treatable by ingesting menthol via tea. Some people even use peppermint tea as scalp rinse!
.
.
What do I use it for?
I love mint when I have an upset stomach and/or when I have a headache. Drinking mint tea (or placing mint oil directly onto my temples) has worked wonders for me in getting rid of headaches. Mint tea is also great for studying when you need a low-caffeine pick me up.
.
.
How I make it:
Fresh or dried mint and honey.
So simple but so wonderful.
I like it iced in the summer, with a slices of lemon AND lime.
Today I had loose leaf mint tea, no sweetener. It was cooling and refreshing but still warm going down.
I love it!
