Dear body of mine,

I couldn’t be more proud of you or love you anymore than I do now.

You fight every day, second, moment for me to live a better life.

You battle illnesses that you are not to be blamed for.

They are the enemies, never you.

You scream a warrior’s cry as you tackle this war.

At times you go unappreciated when it all becomes too much. When we are tired, torn into pieces, and grasping for air as we feel we are drowning in despair.

In the end you always push to regain your strength. You remind me of what we are without pain and disease.

We are limitless.

You never give up. Not even when the internal cries shout that this is too much to take.

You always rise. Bruised, bloody, and broken, it makes no difference. You have a war to win. We have a war to win.

Muscles, bones, tissues, organs, nerves, cells groan but never falter in the journey to overcome.

To each ailment that inflicts us you look upon with sheer determination that we will not cower in fear. We will not submit to their torture. We will not accept their crude invasion.

This is not their Home.
It is Ours.

My spirit you protect and house inside illuminates our every breath and heartbeat. Lighting the way within our bloodstream a magnitude of brilliant colors. Every cell shines as bright as stars. We are all in this together.

We are more powerful. Within us is love, joy, resilience, and strength. We have the power to heal.

We do not waver.

Those chronic illnesses will wave the white flag in defeat. They go quiet, dormant, and agree to never to cause another uprising, for they know we are too strong and will never give in.

Complete remission.
That is where we will soon be.

A mixture of emotions;
Grieving all we felt was lost.
Humbled in the empathy and wisdom we have gained.
Celebrating survival and the taste of freedom.
Empowered in our journey to advocate for others and help them on their own individual journeys.

You are not alone. You are stronger than you ever thought possible. You are deeply loved. Our world needs you. You can overcome this. You are the hero of your story.
