Never stop advocating for yourself & for others in your journey. Our voices matter. We deserve to be seen & heard ❤️✨

Thank you to everyone who gave so much love & support with how I was treated by the bullying post op nurse. How this story ended is with me sharing what happened with my doctor/surgeon & his nurse I’ve known for years. With their support + long term advocacy for me, I had the courage to report the bullying nurse to the surgical hospital. I told them I was not looking to have someone fired but wanted to ensure that such terrible behavior would not happen to another patient. I was apologized to & was told action would take place, to help put right what had been done. I don’t know what occurred following but I do have trust in the hospital, which has always treated me with so much kindness in my previous surgeries.

I do believe that due the mistreatment from this individual that my recovering has been strained. It triggered a lot of PTSD from the trauma of those in the medical field who have been hurtful, who have not listened & who have caused more harm than good. But at the same time, despite all that or perhaps because of it, I have gained a stronger voice. I’ve learned through my journey to advocate for myself, which has also given me the incredible power to advocate for others.

It’s not easy standing up for yourself. Especially when we have grown to believe that those in the medical profession are authority figures whose words are law. When in reality a medical team works FOR YOU & WITH YOU. It’s a partnership of mutual respect & trust. I hope by me sharing my story encourages others not to only speak up but also to never settle for a medical team that does not advocate for you or a loved one. I truly hope that nurse who was so unkind never causes harm to another patient. As well I also hope whatever pain in heart that lead to her cruelty softens, opens to empathy & finds peace; for we can have had times in our lives where we have regretted our behavior.

As for my health now, I’ll share next post. Until then here’s some photos documenting both the bad & good parts of my recovery. Kitty cuddles being the best!
